Valley Clean Air Now's Tune-in and Tune-up program has been recognized by the Governor's Environmental and Economic Leadership Awards.
The Clean Air Now program annually reduces about 3,000 tons of carbon monoxide, 300 tons of reactive organic gases and 150 tons of nitrogen oxides in the San Joaquin Valley.
The organization sponsors events where motorists voluntarily have their vehicles tested to see if they are high polluters. If they are high polluters, owners are provided a $500 voucher in emission-related repairs or maintenance at a local automotive shop.
Valley Clean Air Now was one of 21 organizations to receive California's highest and most prestigious environmental honor.
