TODAY Cleaners is open 7 days a week and offers cleaning and laundering services to customers including car-hop and drive through convenience at 5 locations.
Clean Air Efforts:
The mainstay technology for the dry cleaning industry for many decades has been the use of Perchlorethylene solvent (perc). Perc is a federally and state regulated solvent which has come under increasing scrutiny from Air Pollution Districts as a significant contributor to air pollution. TODAY Cleaners became very interested in evaluating alternative cleaning systems in mid 2000 when it became clear that environmental and health risks associated with using perc were only going to increase. The task then became to understand the alternative technologies and choose one, which would afford the best solutions for all areas of concern. Based on all TODAY Cleaners learned, the purchase of the first GreenEarth solvent based dry cleaning machine was completed in July 2001. Impressed with its overall performance and improvements, the process of converting additional locations took place. Six GreenEarth solvent machines operating in four locations, with plans underway and equipment ordered to be completely converted to GreenEarth technology by September 2003. At an average cost of more than $70,000 per location to convert, the total capital cost will exceed $750,000.00. The upside is the elimination of the approximate 1,800 gallons of perc solvent, which was consumed per year in operation.
